The bus runs every 20 minutes and is a great easy way to get around with many different stops. If you’re walking from Chora to Mylopotas this is where you turn off for the short cut The old town of Chora If you do choose to walk to Mylopotas Beach there is a short cut halfway which will save you considerable walking time – although it is a steep climb up on the way back. And when it is hot in Ios it is very hot on that tarmac. It is easily walkable but the majority of the walk involves being on the main very windy road which isn’t so pleasant. There are buses every 15 minutes from Mylopotas to the Port. There is a wide variety of accommodation near Yialos beach and the Port. A range of watersports are available on the beach. There is a row of local tavernas, cafe-bars, small shops and a supermarket nearby. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available at Yialos beach. You can see Sikinos Island in the distance too. There is a wonderful view of the sea and the traditional white houses of the Port along this walk. From Agia Irini you can also walk south to Valmas Beach, where you will find a taverna and a quiet beach.Īt the other end of Yialos beach, you can also continue walking to Koumbara beach. This is a lovely Byzantine church which has two bell towers at each end and two domes, a large one in the middle of the church, and a smaller one over the eastern side of the church. Yialos is a great anchorage for cabin cruisers and small yachts, and hence it can get quite busy during peak season in Ios Greece.įrom Yialos, you can take a walk to the beautiful church of Agia Irini. It is a popular, spacious and sandy beach, and is about 500m long. Yialos beach (or Gialos) is the main beach at the Port in Ios.
